My browser crashed while I was recording. Is it lost?

Usually not. In browsers that have private file storage (Chrome, Edge and Firefox), the recording is written to this device as it is made. Open any Seayora meeting link on the same computer and the recording is listed under “Recordings kept in this browser”, ready to download.

Recording

The host can record the call. Guests can too, but only if the host allows it. Whenever anybody is recording, a banner appears for everybody in the room naming who — there is no silent recording, and the banner goes away only when nobody is recording any more.

  • The recording follows the call: when somebody shares a screen it fills the picture with the faces beside it, and with more than two people the person talking is shown large. You can choose “everyone the same size” instead in Settings.
  • Pause and resume as often as you like; the paused time is not in the file.
  • Captions on screen are written into the video, and saved beside it as a timed subtitle file and a plain-text transcript that also includes the chat.
  • The file is made in the recorder’s own browser — as an MP4 where the browser can, otherwise WebM — and written to that browser’s own private storage as it goes, so if the tab or computer crashes the recording is offered back the next time you open a Seayora meeting link. It stays there, on that device only, until you download it and remove it.
  • Seayora does not upload it, store it, or keep a copy.
