AI that runs on your phone

Some Seayora features can run on the handset itself — free, offline, and without the text leaving the device. Which ones, which phones, and what happens on every other phone.

Modern phones ship a small AI model built into the operating system. Where Seayora can use it, some features run entirely on the handset: nothing is sent to us or to any AI vendor, it works with no signal, and it costs nothing.

This is an extra road, never a different product. Every one of these features also runs on Seayora’s servers, and a phone that cannot do it locally simply takes that road instead. You get the same answer either way.

Two different kinds of on-device work

Some of this needs the phone’s big general AI model, which only recent handsets have. The rest uses smaller tools the operating system has shipped for years — translation, and finding the dates and amounts in a message. Those run on almost any phone, which makes them the on-device features most people will actually get.

Which phones for the general model

If your phone is eligible but you have the feature switched off in your own settings, Seayora does not nag you about it. That is your choice and the server road works.

What can run on the phone

The two platforms are not identical and Seayora does not pretend otherwise. Apple provides one general model and it reads and writes TEXT — so an iPhone can summarise, rephrase, proofread and write a listing title on the handset, and it cannot describe a photograph, because that model cannot see one. Google provides four specific tools instead — summarise, proofread, rewrite and describe a photo — so an Android phone does the photo and not the title, which needs Google’s general model and is still in early testing. Whichever half your phone is missing, that feature works exactly as it did before on our servers, and the app tells you which road a result took.

Translation is the exception that reaches nearly everybody. Both Apple and Google ship a translator as part of the operating system, separate from the newer AI models, so translating a message happens on the handset on most phones people are actually carrying. The first time you use a language your phone has to fetch it, and Seayora will not spend your mobile data on that without being asked — so that first translation goes through our servers, and you are offered the choice of keeping the language on the phone afterwards.

What never runs on your phone

The on-device model is small. It is genuinely good at short, everyday text and it is not suitable for anything where being wrong costs money or has legal weight. So these always run on a full engine, whatever phone you are holding:

• Reading a bank statement, a receipt or an insurance declarations page.
• The Fair Housing review of a listing — an empty result there is indistinguishable from a clean advert, which is exactly the mistake that must not happen.
• Anything in the books: categorising transactions, month end, collections, anomalies.
• Sales tax and income tax questions, which cite statute.
• Reviewing a rental application.
• Content safety and moderation.
• Search indexing, which has to be built by one consistent model or results stop matching.

A translation is never the record

A translated message is shown to you as a translation, labelled as one, with the original beside it. Seayora never stores it, never attaches it to a document, and never shows it in place of what somebody actually wrote. That matters most where it is least convenient: a notice that has been served, a signed lease and a completed inspection report are fixed documents, and a machine translation of one is a reading aid rather than a copy of it. Where the exact words decide something, read the original or get a human translation.

Dates and details are a suggestion

When Seayora picks a date or an amount out of a message, it fills in a form field for you to check. Nothing is saved from it and nothing is created by it. It copies what was written rather than working anything out — so “next Tuesday” is offered back to you as “next Tuesday” and not turned into a date, because turning it into one would be inventing the exact fact you are about to rely on.

What we can and cannot promise about privacy

When a feature runs on your handset, the text really does stay there: it is not sent to Seayora and not sent to an AI vendor. When the same feature runs on our servers — which is what happens on most devices today — it is handled like every other AI feature and is covered by the Privacy Policy.

We will not tell you “your data never leaves your phone” as a blanket statement, because for most people using Seayora right now it would not be true. The app tells you which road a particular result took.

If it does not seem to be working

There is usually nothing to fix. On a fresh handset the model downloads in the background the first time it is needed, so early attempts take the server road. A low battery, a hot phone or Game Mode will also hand the work back to the server for a while. In every case the feature still works — it just used a signal to do it.
