Using Seayora in Spanish, French or Chinese
Switch Seayora’s screens to Spanish, French or Chinese on the website, the iPhone and Android — what is translated, what stays in English, and how to read a message, a building notice or a repair request written in another language.
You can see Seayora’s screens in Spanish, French or Simplified Chinese. The choice is saved to your account, so the website, the iPhone app and the Android app all follow it once you have picked it on one of them.
Choose a language
- On the website: Settings → Appearance → Language.
- On the iPhone or Android: Settings → Appearance → Language. The change applies when you leave the screen.
- Not signed in: the language menu at the bottom of every page of seayora.com. It is kept when you sign in.
The choices are: English, Español, Français, 中文(简体), Follow device. “Follow device” uses your phone’s or browser’s language when it is one of these, and English otherwise. English is the default, so nothing changes until you choose.
What is translated
Menus, buttons, labels, statuses, empty states and the messages Seayora shows you — about 11100 pieces of text so far, including the words the server sends, such as a status like “Out of service”. Translation is still being extended: anything not translated yet is shown in English, rather than a guess.
What stays in English
- Leases, notices, receipts, statements and every other document Seayora produces. These are records, and the English version is the one that counts.
- Emails Seayora sends.
- The Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. Where a translated screen and the English differ, the English governs.
- Anything somebody wrote: messages, notes, listing descriptions, announcements and names are shown exactly as they were written. To read one in another language, use Translate on it (below).
Reading a message, a notice or a repair request in another language
A message, a notice from your building and a repair request each have a Translate button: long-press or open the menu on a message, open the notice, or open the request. The translation appears under what was written and is labeled “Machine translation”, with the language it came from when that can be told.
- It translates into the language you chose for Seayora. While Seayora is in English, it uses your phone’s or browser’s language instead. You can pick any other language from the translation itself.
- The original stays exactly as it was written, always on screen above the translation. A translation is never saved, never sent to anybody and never replaces what somebody wrote.
- Where the exact words decide something — a notice that has been served, a signed lease, an inspection report — read the original or get a human translation. A machine translation is a reading aid, not a copy.
- Nothing is translated until you press Translate.
Your privacy
Switching the screens to another language happens on your own device, from a word list built into the website and the apps: nothing you type and nothing on your screen is sent anywhere for that. The Translate button is different. On most phones it runs on the phone itself; the first time you use a new language, on a phone without a translator, and always on the website, the text is sent to Seayora, which translates it with the AI engine it uses and keeps neither the text nor the translation.
Something looks wrong?
If a translation reads badly or a screen is still in English, tell us from Settings → Feedback and include the screen and the words. Translations are reviewed and improved continuously.
