Tips

Let customers add a tip when they pay an invoice on your portal, see every tip by technician, and record when you hand it over.

When tips are switched on, a customer paying an invoice on your portal can add one: 10%, 15%, 20% or an amount they choose. The tip is part of the same payment, and it is yours in full — Seayora takes nothing from a tip, and the card fee, if you charge one, is worked out on the invoice alone.

Switching tips on

Tips are off until you switch them on. On the website go to Finance → Payouts → Online payments and turn on “Let customers add a tip”. On both phones it is in the same place, under the books settings for online payments. Customers can only pay online once your payout account is approved.

Where a tip goes

  • A tip is never applied to the invoice and never left as a credit on the customer’s account. The invoice is paid with what it was owed; the tip sits beside it.
  • In your books a tip is recorded as money you are holding for your team — Tips Payable (2310) — not as income, because in most places a tip belongs to whoever did the work.
  • Each tip is linked to the invoice, the job and the technician who was on the job.
  • A tip shows on the Tips list once the payment has settled. A payment still clearing does not show yet.

Handing it over

  • Finance → Tips (Tools → Tips on the phones) lists every tip and how much you owe each technician.
  • When you pay a tip to your technician — with their paycheck, in cash, however you pay them — mark it handed over and say how, if you like. You can undo it if you marked the wrong one.
  • Marking a tip handed over is your record. Seayora does not move money to your team.
  • Technicians see the tips on their own jobs under My tips, whatever their access to invoicing.

Refunds and returned payments

If you refund a payment, or the customer’s bank returns it, the money going back is taken from the invoice first, then the tip. A tip that went back cannot be handed over, and your books show it returned.

Who can do what

The Tips list and recording a hand-over are part of the Invoicing permission. A connected assistant can read your tips — “how much in tips do I still owe my crew?” — but cannot record a hand-over.

Frequently asked questions

Does Seayora take a fee on tips?

No. Seayora’s fee and any card fee are worked out on the invoice amount only. The whole tip is yours.

Can a customer tip on a payment they make another way?

Tips are added when a customer pays an invoice online on your portal. A tip paid some other way is up to you to record in your books.

Is the tip shown on the customer’s receipt?

The payment they make includes the tip, and the portal tells them the tip goes to your business in full.

Who decides which technician gets the tip?

Seayora records the technician assigned to the job. How tips are shared on your team is your decision.
