Using the Seayora app as a resident
Paying rent and setting up AutoPay from your phone, reporting a repair with photos, messages and notifications, the app lock, and what happens with no signal.
This guide is for renters using the Seayora app on an iPhone or an Android phone. It covers the things most people do in a month: paying rent, reporting a repair and replying to messages.
Signing in
Use the same account you use on seayora.com. Both apps take your email and password, or Continue with Google. The iPhone app also offers Sign in with Apple and signing in with a passkey; the Android app does not. If you made your account with Apple and want to use an Android phone, choose “Forgot password?” once on the sign-in screen to set a password, and both ways work from then on.
If you were in the middle of something when you were asked to sign in, such as opening a link from an email, the app takes you straight back to it afterwards.
The app lock
The first time you sign in on a phone, the app offers a lock: a four-digit PIN or a pattern, with Face ID or your fingerprint as the quick way in if your phone has one. The PIN or pattern stays on the phone and is never sent to Seayora. “Not now” is a real answer, and you can set or change the lock later under Settings.
Five wrong tries signs you out of the app. Nothing is lost: sign in again and choose a new lock.
Finding your way around
The app has the same five tabs as your account on the website, so a page you know on a laptop is in the same place on the phone. The bar uses the short names shown in brackets.
| Tab | What is in it |
|---|---|
| Dashboard (Home) | What you owe, what is due next, open repairs and anything waiting for you. |
| My Home | Pay rent, repairs, your lease, your deposit, insurance, notices and payment history. |
| Explore | Browse rentals, saved homes and the applications you have sent. |
| Communications (Messages) | Every conversation, plus announcements and packages for your building. |
| Settings | Your profile, payment methods, notifications, the app lock and security. |
To find anything by name, use search on the Home tab. Settings → All tools lists everything the app carries for your account.
Paying rent
Open My Home and choose Pay rent. Each charge shows what it is for, and Pay now on a charge pays it with the method you pick. The total you will be charged, including any card fee, is shown before you confirm. A bank account and a debit card carry no fee; a credit card adds a fee, and in states that do not allow card surcharges the card option is not offered.
AutoPay from your phone
AutoPay is on for each new charge, and it pays with your default payment method. So the one thing to set up is a default method:
- Go to Settings → Payment methods and choose Add a bank account or Add a card. Where it is offered, Connect your bank lets you pick the account by signing in to your bank, so you never type the numbers.
- If you have more than one method, open the one you want and choose Make this my default.
- On Payment methods, AutoPay settings choose whether AutoPay runs at all, how many days before the due date it pays, whether a failed payment is tried again, and when you are reminded. They apply to every month from now on.
- To skip AutoPay for one month only, open that charge in your rent history and switch off Autopay for this charge. Your other months are unchanged.
If a payment does not go through, you get a notification. Pay now on it opens the app on your rent, so you can pay with another method.
If you cannot pay a month in full, My Home → Payment plans lets you ask to spread it. See “Payment Plans for Rent You Cannot Pay in Full”.
Reporting a repair
Open My Home and choose Maintenance. Many problems, like a tripped outlet or a thermostat battery, can be fixed in a few minutes, so the app first offers a few quick steps to try. If they do not help, send the request: describe the problem and add up to 8 photos at once. A wide shot and a close-up help whoever comes to fix it. You can also record a short voice note.
You can follow the request from the same screen, and add more photos or a note to it later, up to 7 photos at a time. When your landlord replies or schedules a visit, you get a notification you can reply to without opening the app.
If what you describe sounds like an emergency, such as a gas smell, flooding, sparks or a burning smell, the app shows no steps to try. It shows your building’s emergency line, where your landlord has set one, and a button that reports it straight away. Call 911 if anyone is in danger.
Messages and notifications
You can reply to a message straight from its notification. A notification about rent, a lease or a repair opens that thing when you tap it, not the home screen. Anything that pays or signs opens the app, so your app lock protects it. Choose what notifies you under Settings → Notifications; on Android you can also silence one kind, such as Viewings and tours, from the phone’s own notification settings.
When there is no signal
What you do with no signal is saved on the phone and sends itself when you are back on a network. A strip at the top of the app says how many things are waiting; tap it to see them. Paying, approving a sign-in and calls are the exceptions, because they only mean something at the moment they happen, and the app says so instead of queuing them.
Frequently asked questions
Is AutoPay on automatically?
Yes, for each new charge, once you have a default payment method. Without one there is nothing to pay with, so add a bank account or a card under Settings → Payment methods first.
Can I see the fee before I pay by card?
Yes. The amount you will be charged, including the card fee, is shown before you confirm. Paying from a bank account or with a debit card carries no fee.
How many photos can I add to a repair request?
Up to 8 when you send it, chosen all at once from your photo library. You can add more later, up to 7 at a time, with a note or a voice memo.
Does the app work with no signal?
Mostly. A repair request or a message written with no signal sends itself when you are back on a network. Paying rent needs a connection, and the app says so.
